چکیده
Due to a change in reagent affecting the performance of the Urinary Antigen Detection (UAD) assay, the positivity cut-off values of the assay had to be revised. A number of epidemiological studies have been affected by this change, including the original version of this article [1]. All samples of the study have been reanalysed and the impact on the study results can be found in the attached Excel sheet (Additional file 1):

Pneumococcal lower respiratory tract infections in adults: an observational case-control study in primary care in Belgium
BACKGROUND Serious lower respiratory tract infections (SLRTIs), especially Streptococcus pneumoniae (SP)-related pneumonia cause considerable morbidity and mortality. Chest imaging, sputum and blood culture are not routinely obtained by general practitioners (GPs). Antibiotic therapy is usually started empirically. The BinaxNOW® and Urine Antigen Detection (UAD) assays have been developed respe...
متن کاملSelective Antibody Deficiency and its Relation to the IgG2 and IgG3 Subclass Titers in Recurrent Respiratory Infections
Background: Selective antibody deficiency with normal immunoglobulins (SADNI) may be identified as part of distinct primary or secondary immunodeficiency disorders. The clinical manifestations include recurrent, often severe or prolonged, upper or lower respiratory tract infections. Objectives: To evaluate SADNI in patients with recurrent sinopulmonary infections and its relation to IgG subclas...

متن کاملAetiology and prediction of pneumonia in lower respiratory tract infection in primary care.
BACKGROUND Knowledge of predominant pathogens and their association with outcome are of importance for the management of lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI). As antibiotic therapy is indicated in pneumonia and not in acute bronchitis, a predictor of pneumonia is needed. AIM To describe the aetiology and outcome of LRTI in adults with pneumonic and adults with non-pneumonic LRTI treated i...
متن کاملTreating respiratory tract infections in ambulatory care in Belgium: fluoroquinolone consumption and resistance development.
This study analyses consumption patterns of fluoroquinolones in treating respiratory tract infections in ambulatory care in Belgium and describes susceptibility of Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates to fluoroquinolones. Consumption data were obtained from IMS Health. Pneumococcal resistance was investigated in 600 blood isolates collected from 1998 to 2003. Although consumption of fluoroquinolon...
